Galilee Center Celebrates Epiphany Day with New Shoes and Blankets for Needy Children

January 04, 2019

Mecca, CA – (January 3, 2019) – Timing could not be better during the desert’s cold winter for warming hearts and helping children with new shoes, socks and blankets. Galilee Center will be distributing these much-needed items beginning at 10 a.m. this Sunday, January 6, 2019, from its multi-purpose facility in Mecca.

Celebrating its 8th year, Galilee Center’s Epiphany Day is expected to serve an estimated 1,000 children of the East Coachella Valley that range in age from infants to 14-years-old. Children will receive a pair of new shoes and socks, while those younger will take home a soft blanket generously donated by Needles & Pins and Blankets from the Heart at Sacred Heart Church.

The East Coachella Valley nonprofit, recognized for its wide-ranging services to many of the area’s overlooked, relies largely on the generosity of the public to sustain its ability to provide clothing, food and shelter to all ages from its service-focused building in Mecca.

Galilee Center Co-Founder Gloria Gomez explains, “Particularly with winter temperatures unusually cold, these vitally needed items will help children stay warm. It is extremely gratifying to have the ability to make a difference in so many lives thanks to the blessings that our donors and volunteers share.”
