On Sunday March 6th, 2011, Stater Brothers Charities presented Gloria Gomez & Claudia Castorena with the “Heroes of the Heartland Award”. The banquet was held at the Mission Inn Hotel and Spa in Riverside California. The award came with a $10,000.00 donation from Stater Bros. Charities to Galilee Center.

On the 20th anniversary of founding Martha’s Village & Kitchen, Gloria and Claudia retired from “Martha’s” to start a new ministry, the Galilee Center. Stationed under the shade of a tree in Thermal, California, Gloria, Claudia and 12 enthusiastic volunteers provided canned food baskets to approximately 100 families on the first day in July 2010. Through the Galilee Center, they are continuing their mission to help those who need it most by providing food, clothing and other basic needs and affirming their dignity with love, compassion and respect.

To date, Galilee Center has registered over 900 unduplicated families of which 1,500 are children. The Center provides assistance with canned food, fresh produce, clothing, blankets, jackets, backpacks and new toys. In addition it has assisted 30 families with rental assistance.
