The need for rental assistance has increased in ways we could not have imagined. Thanks to our generous donors, the Galilee Center has been able to help 140 families with their rent since April.
Our applicants are families, single parents and seniors who have been impacted by COVID-19. Our applicants have been impacted financially due to loss of jobs and the process of filing for unemployment has been delayed due to the amount of applications the state has received.
Some applicants have tested positive with COVID-19 and were quarantined, many of them without paid sick time for their quarantine leave. Our seniors have been most impacted because they have had to quarantine themselves. They are afraid to be infected with COVID-19 and are not able to do their side jobs to make the extra money they rely on to live month to month. One of our applicant’s husband passed away because of COVID-19 and now had the unexpected funeral cost as well as dealing with the uncertainty of how to provide for her family in the future.
